MUMBI AND THE FULL NINE

When the world was still soft with dawn, Mwene Nyaga, God of the Agĩkũyũ, led Gĩkũyũ to the snow-capped peaks of Kĩrĩnyaga. From there, he pointed to a forested grove below and said, Here, you will live.

In that place, Gĩkũyũ found Mũmbi, keeper of the Eternal Fire that must never fade. Together, they raised nine daughters, each born with a spark to guard the sacred flame.

But peace is a fragile thing. As the daughters grew and each received her share of the fire, jealousy crept in like smoke. Soon, they quarreled over whose flame burned brightest.

From the shadows rose King Gĩkũyũ, a greedy grandson who seized the fire and claimed it as his own. The flame dimmed. Rivers withered. The people forgot the name of Mwene Nyaga.

Then, in a quiet hut, a boy named Iregi was born. A dreamer with a shepherd’s stick, a spark in his heart, and an ancient bird perched on his shoulder. He asked dangerous questions. And the fire listened.

To restore the Eternal Fire, Iregi must confront a cruel king, outwit the ogre Irimũ, and awaken Ma, the forgotten truth.

Will one small flame be enough to chase away the darkness and rekindle the fire that once made the world whole?
