One of the oldest traditions amongst many ancient communities is that time will stop at the end of the year. In Western traditions this is called the holidays-from Christmas Eve until New Year. This period would not be in the calendar at all and people would let time go and enter a period of timelessness.

But time the trickster, never truly stops. Soon, the calendar flips, and this brief period of timelessness ends. The old year rolls up and the new starts. Folks feel like they had been in a different world-and there is an overwhelming sense of rebirth. The chaos of the old year give way to the rebirth of the new, just as creation springs from the void.

Life, like Uncle says, is a gurudumu—a wheel that always rolls on.Happy New Year everyone. May the waves of 2025 bring you closer to the shores that you seek.
